Take your junk to the dump
The weather has gotten warmer, seasonal residents are returning to the island to open up their homes.
In light of that, Highways Department Supervisor Mike Shea has a plea not to leave unwanted household items on the side of the road by anyone thinking that the Highways Department will eventually come by and bring them to the transfer station. This has been a seasonal occurrence.
The tires seen here on Beach Avenue are an example. Shea said he is leaving them there on purpose — even though it makes him uncomfortable to do so — as a reminder to everyone that this is not the right thing to do. The Highways Department is not a trash pickup service.
The Transfer Station is open every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. It will soon be open more days than that.
The island is cluttered enough with new signage on the sides of the road. Discarded household items shouldn’t clog them up even more.
