Obituary: Marie Louise Aline (Cyr) Fallon

Marie Louise Aline (Cyr) Fallon died in Orange, Calif., on Aug. 8 of natural causes.

Marie was born in the Centerdale section of North Providence, R.I., in 1918 to Elphege and Yvonne Cyr. When she was 5 years old, the family moved to Block Island, where she attended school until she graduated in 1935, the valedictorian of her class.

In 1938, Marie married Raymond Leo Fallon, Chief Boatswain’s Mate (U.S. Coast Guard) at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Raymond served at the New Shoreham Coast Guard Station from 1936 until 1942. Raymond was a member of the race boat crew that won the East Coast Rowing Championship in 1938. In 1942, the family moved to the Boston district.

In 1947, Marie, Raymond and their daughter Jeanne relocated to Eureka, Calif., where they lived until their son Joseph graduated from high school in 1971. At that time the family moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. Raymond died in 1994 and in 1999 Marie moved to Orange, Calif., to be near her daughter, Sister Jeanne Fallon, CSJ.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Sister Jeanne Fallon; her son, Joseph A. Fallon, and her daughter-in-law, Rachele Fallon, of Block Island; her granddaughter, Jeannie Marie Fallon of Austin, Texas; her sister, Noella McMullen of Block Island; her brother, Robert Cyr of Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be at noon on Thursday, Aug. 18, at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Chapel Street, Block Island, with interment following at the Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, 12 Sanderson Rd., Smithfield, RI 02917, in her memory.
