New art at the Airport
There is new art on display at the Block Island Airport. The Gallery will be hosting work by Carolina Arentsen through May 28, 2018.
On display will be Arentsen’s Caribbean- and floral-themed mixed media works. A resident of Providence, Arentsen was born in Santiago, Chile, and came to the United States in 1970. She attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating in 1991 with a B.F.A. in Illustration. Working as a freelance illustrator, Arentsen’s work reflects her interest in strong lines, colors and patterns. She has exhibited widely, including at the Krauss Gallery at the Moses Brown School, Gallerie Ellipsis in Newport, and the Upstream Gallery in New York. She has received numerous awards, including the John Randall Orth Award given to one illustration student annually by the Rhode Island School of Design.
Exhibitors for the Block Island Airport Gallery were selected by juror Lisa Robb, Block Island School arts educator. The Block Island Airport gallery is funded through Rhode Island’s Percent for Art law.
The Block Island Airport gallery is a partnership between the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, promoting outstanding work by artists living and working in Rhode Island. The gallery presents art to an ever-changing audience of local, national, and international travelers.
