The following was issued by First Warden Ken Lacoste:

To our working community:

Last week the Town council amended the town’s emergency ordinance to allow a limited number of folks back to work under clear and defined guidelines. One of our goals is to remain relatively isolated from the virus “bloom” on the mainland. The only way we can do that is if EVERYONE who is able to work abide by the strict protocols spelled out in the Ordinance dated April 15th, 2020. This includes masks, social distancing, hand washing and registration with the Town. All Essential Activities and Worker Activities must register in advance of working.

When in doubt please reach out and get the answer to any question about what is and what isn’t restricted. Any non-essential folks coming to the island must quarantine for 14 days (which means that one must proceed from the ferry or airport directly to your residence without making any stops, remain at your residence except for medical care or emergencies, have food and other necessities delivered, and monitor yourself for symptoms such as fever, cough and shortness of breath). Worker Activities can only be performed if one is Sheltering-In-Place, which means they have finished a quarantine.

There are many folks that are not yet able to return to work and we hope that everyone will do their best to follow the ordinance.  If we can demonstrate the willingness and ability to do this step the town council can consider the next steps with the confidence that the policies will be carried out.  If not, the policy decisions will be forced upon us.   By all means please do not put local folks in danger by “importing” the virus through disallowed activity.

We can do this if we do it carefully.

Ken Lacoste, First Warden
