Margaret Wilson "Mitzi" Berlin, 93
Margaret “Mitzi” Wilson Berlin passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015 at the Westerly Health Center at the age of 93. She was the beloved wife of the late Oscar "O.J." Berlin.
Mitzi was born on June 6, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York and attended Fox Meadow and Scarsdale High School, and then went on to study at the famed Julliard School in Manhattan for more than two years. When the United States entered World War II, Berlin ended her studies and traveled the world to entertain American troops. She also sang for wounded soldiers at Halloran Hospital in New York City, often joined by the Metropolitan Opera’s accompanist on piano. After the war, Mitzi performed on and off Broadway and met such luminaries as Ingrid Bergman and Marion Anderson. She performed regularly on Harry Belafonte's television program in the late 1950s.
Mitzi and Oscar later retired to Block Island as year-round residents. Oscar passed away in 2012.
