Mania Ivanoff Ritter, 95
Mania Ivanoff Ritter, 95, of Warwick, Rhode Island, died peacefully at home in her sleep on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017. Born on Jan. 11, 1922 in Wiesbaden, Germany, she lived in France, Virginia, Oklahoma, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.
In 1966, she moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky, with her family. She taught French and Russian at Western Kentucky University until 1989. She moved to Warwick in March 2017. Mania spent summers on Block Island since 1956, and had a home on Center Road since 1966.
Her husband of 54 years, John Arthur Ritter, and her grandson, Gregor Evans Smith, of Block Island, R.I., preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Ritter-Smith of Warwick, her son Christian Ritter of Akron, Ohio; and her grandsons, Benjamin Elliott Smith of Block Island, R.I. and Logan Erickson Ritter of Berkeley, California. She will be remembered for her sharp wit, her generous spirit, her intellectual curiosity, the number of lives she touched, the annual Bastille Day party that she held for more than 40 years, and her joie de vivre.
