Lyn Reale passed away peacefully on January 13, surrounded by her family. Lyn was born in New York City on April 24, 1935 to Hal Errett and Anna Errett (née) Rizzo. She attended the Brentwood Academy, an all-girls Catholic boarding school on Long Island. At age 20, she married Bob Reale and together they raised five sons and a daughter in Park Ridge, New Jersey.
The Reale family vacationed on Block Island beginning in 1970. In 1982, Lyn and Bob moved to Block Island and Lyn began working as a realtor under the tutelage of Dorothy Sullivan of Sullivan Real Estate. Ultimately Lyn founded Block Island Realty and ran that business well into her 70s.
She retired and remained on Block Island. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and went into care at the Brentwood Nursing Home in Warwick, Rhode Island. Despite the disease, Lyn had wonderful quality of life to the very end. Her short-term memory was unreliable but she retained her quick wit. Her freewheeling, sometimes caustic, often bawdy sense of humor made her the most popular patient at the Brentwood facility by a wide margin. It should be noted that in her senior year at the Brentwood Academy, Lyn was expelled for “insubordination.” And so the mischievous, irreverent, transgressive girl who was expelled from Brentwood Academy was cherished at the Brentwood Nursing Home for the very same reasons.

She is survived by her children Robert, William, James, Paul, Ann, and Thomas, and her honorary son, Keith Suehnholz. She leaves eleven grandchildren; Gabriel, Jaixen, Kiley, Hannah, Augustus, Emma, Charlotte, Leonardo, BC, Wyatt and Dakota.

The Reale family would like to acknowledge the exemplary and extraordinary care given to Lyn at Brentwood over the past four years. In Lyn’s words, “I love it here. I’m having a ball.”

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Mary D. Fund. A celebration of her life will be held on the island in the summer of 2022.
