An amazing rescue
To the Editor:
I was very pleased to read of the awards and recognition given to Capt. Bob DiSanto for his rescue last August of two unresponsive boaters who had suffered carbon monoxide poisoning.
SafeSea and Bob have been welcome presences in New Harbor for many years, providing assistance to boaters and the Harbors Department throughout the busy summers on the Great Salt Pond. The prompt response of Captain Bob and Gary Ryan, of the Block Island Fire and Rescue Department, effected an amazing 10-minute rescue from the Great Salt Pond on a busy August day, to a waiting ambulance. Kudos to all involved.

Capt. Kate deserves the job
To The Editor
Kate McConville more than deserves to be made the new harbormaster of Block Island, not just interim harbormaster.
Kate has done great things for Block Island during her time here and is a very respected professional.
She comes with equal or greater qualifications than past harbormasters and should be given her due.
In addition to her expertise, Kate’s warmth, compassion and steady hand would make her an outstanding harbormaster.
