To the Editor:
The New Shoreham Broadband Committee wants to thank The Block Island Times for your continued coverage of our work. Deciding on the best solution for providing Broadband (high speed internet) to everyone on the island is a complex task. That complexity may have contributed to a misunderstanding of what options are left on the table.
At this point we are still considering three options, not two. A full fiber optic network, a hybrid fiber/wireless network, and a wireless network. All three options are still being considered because we are working on determining not only the cost to build each one, but also costs to maintain over 20 years, and monthly costs to the subscriber. We want to fully understand initial build cost, yearly costs to maintain the network and the value each delivers to the end user. Please come to our weekly meetings to give us your input and ideas.
