Craig Francis Battey, 62

Craig Francis Battey, 62, of Block Island, R.I., and Merriam, Kansas, left this world on May 25, 2016. Craig was the second son of Emmons E. and Marilyn J. (Driscoll) Battey. He was born on Dec. 22, 1953 in Providence, R.I. 

Spending time between Block Island and Riverside, California, he graduated from La Sierra High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Rising to the rank of sergeant, Battey spent a few years as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, and would spend time in the Kansas Army National Guard later in his life. 

After a career in construction, Craig became one of the early adopters of computer technology, spending most of his career in both the hardware and software fields, starting and leading such companies in the Kansas City metropolitan area. He was a lifelong Boy Scout and volunteered his time with scout troops in the Overland Park, Kansas area as an adult leader. He is survived by his children: daughter Robyn of Denver, Colorado; son Sam, of Portland, Oregon; daughter Carmen, of Wakefield, Rhode Island; and daughter Aaren, of Lenexa, Kansas; his six grandchildren - Morgan, Jacob, Madison, Abby, Jackson, Aceline and Hudson; his father Emmons; two brothers - Wayne and Gary; two sisters - Kim and Sandy; his long-time partner Sheila and many other family and friends.

A memorial service and interment will be held at the Block Island Cemetery on June 19, 2016 at 12:30 p.m.
