Charles Martin McIntyre (Chaz), of New York, N.Y. passed away on March 5, 2022 at the age of 62, after a long illness. He was the son of the late Louis F. McIntyre Jr., and Althea Martin McIntyre, of a Pleasantville, N.Y. and Block Island.

For the last three decades, Chaz had been a sound engineer for Broadway, movies, and entertainers. Charlie started his career as a member of Sound Designers Local 922 in 1999, and was a brother union member in Local One. “Brother” Charles was the sound designer and engineer for Jackie Mason’s four Broadway shows, he toured with Betty Buckley and Joel Grey as sound designer/engineer/operator. For his work with Betty Buckley, Charlie received rare recognition in the New York Times for the audio quality of the show at The Rainbow and Stars Room at the top of Rockefeller Plaza. Chaz has been in the sound department of the Broadway production of “The Lion King” at the Minskoff Theater for 17 years.

Charlie was a gifted musician and passionate student of rhythm and blues, and will be remembered by all as a true original, total sweetheart, a rock ‘n roll hero with a lovely spirit. Rockabilly was his look and he lit up the room with his smile and twinkling eyes. The band he formed, Stolen Goodz, provided an entire generation of Block Island youth with music, excitement, friendship and precious memories. Described by many as the coolest guy in the room, Charlie was also a kind and gentle soul. Playing gigs with Loose Change and jamming in his studio/practice space weekly at New York's famous Music Building since 2010 is what brought Chaz the most joy in New York.

Charlie loved the ocean and hitting the beaches in Rhode Island and Long Island, especially in the pandemic, which was tragically isolating for Chaz. He had a love of wooden boats and woodworking and beautiful, unique guitars.

From a large, boisterous Irish family, Charlie was predeceased by his bandmate and soul brother, Brian A. McIntyre. Charlie is survived by his sister, Maureen M. McAdams (Timothy) and brothers Louis F. McIntyre III MD (Lizanne), and Timothy W. McIntyre as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022, 6 to 9p.m. at Hurley’s Saloon, 232 West 48th Street, New York NY. There will be a rock ‘n roll internment on Block Island later in the year.
