Celebrating family on Mother’s Day
This edition of The Block Island Times, while it was taking shape during the week, slowly emerged as a tribute to family, and children, young and old alike. It seemed fitting for Mother’s Day.
The students of Mrs. Hart’s kindergarten class, as they do every year, penned their funny and touching tributes to their moms. On the other end of the spectrum, we have the stories of some of our senior population, who spoke of the joys and hardships of taking care of their own aging parents. Somewhere in the middle, we have the graduating students of the Block Island School Class of 2019, who have demonstrated a wide range of interests through their senior projects. Some of these young men and women will be headed off to college, while others will be seeking jobs and vocations. One of those graduates is Luke Brown, who will become an Eagle Scout on Saturday, May 11.
We have a new column, Turning the Tide, which will focus on environmental matters, by Rosemary Connelli, who is in her 20s, and there is a photo inside of our local Cub Scouts cleaning the beach. An island daughter is honored for saving her dad. (P. 14)
All of which is to say,the parents of the people of Block Island must have done something right, and we are happy to salute all of them on this Mother’s Day 2019
