Book talk at BIMI October 12 “The Old Man: A Block Island Sea Captain and the Woman He Loved”
The Block Island Maritime Institute is hosting a book talk by Keith A. Lewis on Wednesday, October 12, at 5 p.m. on “The Old Man: A Block Island Sea Captain and the Woman He Loved,” (Volume One).
This is the first in a series about Rob
Lewis and his wife Alyce - a young couple living within the context of global events. Rob was a sea captain, born and raised on Block Island; he married a New York City girl and invited her to his wind-swept island home, where she raised three children alone until he gave up the sea. Captain Lewis was a founding member of the land conservation movement on Block Island and in the establishment of the Block Island Conservancy in 1972. The author, Keith A. Lewis, is the son of Rob and Alyce, a sixth-generation Block Islander, a founding member of the Block Island Land Trust, and a former merchant seaman sailing as chief engineer (both
steam and diesel). A must read for anyone interested in Block Island and the sea.
A book signing will take place following the presentation.
