Bonny Lynn (Seamon) Ryan, 70
Bonny Lynn (Seamon) Ryan passed away at home on March 15, 2021 with her husband of almost 48 years by her side. She was born in the Bronx, New York on November 17, 1950, the daughter of Lil and Jerry Seamon.
She attended Farmingdale College, majoring in Medical Secretarial Science, which would come in handy for her 31 years as a member, and captain, of the Block Island Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. After graduation, she worked for the Waldemar Cancer Research Center on Long Island, as they developed what they hoped was a breakthrough drug in the battle against cancer.
A mother of four, Bonny always wanted to live on Block Island. In February, 1986, she and her young family packed up a U-Haul and headed for Pt. Judith, excited about their new island home. Of course the ferry was canceled when they arrived.
She assimilated quickly into the community as a hotel and restaurant owner, a Block Island School secretary, with a stint at the local library, and eventually landing in the clerk’s office of Town Hall; all the while, continuing to be a part of the Block Island Rescue Squad, right up until the end.
Bonny is survived by her husband Gary, her four children, Erik and wife Christen, Jordan and wife Kate, Sean, Hillary and five grandchildren; Cora, Kiley, Zachery, Everly, and Lola. She will be remembered as a strong woman with a tough exterior, but also with a kind heart, once she let you in.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date to be announced. Any further remembrance in her honor can be in the form of a donation to the Block Island Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, or the Mary D. Fund, which was incredibly helpful during her fight. Thank you all for your love and support.
