Island Free Library Programs
The Island Free Library invites everyone to participate in the programs listed below. More information at islandfreelibrary.org.
Library Hours: The Library is open on Tuesdays 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Wednesdays: 10:30 a.m. Lapsit Story Time for ages 0 to 2. Stories, songs, and fingerplays at the library with Ms. Morgan.
Thursdays: 10:30 a.m. Preschool Storytime for ages 3 to 5 years with Ms. Morgan. Read, sing, dance and play!

Chess extraordinaire Graham Watkins will be at the library on Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Tuesdays, 5:30 p.m. Mah Jongg. In addition, we will play on Saturdays at 10 a.m. Come play a game or two. If you don’t know how to play, we will teach you. All are welcome to participate.
Tuesdays: Clase de ingles/English Language Class in-person at the library. La clase de ingles sera en la biblioteca hoy. Beginner class: 5:30 to 6:40 p.m. Intermediate/advanced: 6:50 to 8 p.m. Individual tutoring is available weekdays.
Thursdays: 5 - 6 p.m. D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read). Join others in an hour of silent reading. No other library services will be available - and no chitchatting, please.
Saturdays at 10 a.m.: Mah Jongg. Come play a game or two. If you don’t know how to play, we will teach you. All are welcome to participate.
Saturdays 1 p.m. Stitch Together: Bring your projects (knitting, crochet, weaving, or embroidering) for crafting and conversations. All ages and skill levels welcome – bring your problems and questions - help is available!
Saturday, September 10 at 1 p.m. “Beyond the Mask,” a documentary about internationally acclaimed poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. Filmmaker Frederick Lewis will introduce the film and conduct a post-screening discussion.
Island Free Library Book Mobile: Not feeling well or can’t get out of the house? The IFL Book Mobile will bring books, movies, or magazines to you. Please call Judy at (401) 466-3233 and she can bring your items to you.

Caretakers Support Group: The Caregivers Support Group will be meeting in person at the Community Center on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m.. Meetings are free of charge and will be held every other week. Contact Kerri Gaffett at kblockisland@aol.com for questions.

Senior Ride Service: Open to full-time and seasonal island seniors (60 and over) and persons with special needs as well as caretakers without transportation. Block Island Lions Club 45th Run Around the Block 15k Road Race. Saturday, September 10. Race starts at Isaac’s Corner, goes down Cooneymus Road, to Old Mill Road and around the west side to Center Road then Beach Avenue and finishes at Fred Benson Town Beach. Walkers start at 12:30 p.m., runners at 1:30 p.m. Proceeds to benefit the Michael and Daniel Batchelder Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Block Island Arts and Crafts Guild Fair
Sunday, September 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Historical Society. Ten percent of all proceeds go towards scholarships for Block Island School students.

Andy’s Way Bird Walk. Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. and September 20 at 8 a.m. Meet in parking area.

International Coastal Cleanup: Sunday, September 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meet at Fred Benson Town Beach.

Not New Boutique: The final Not New Boutique sale will be on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No additional clothing donations will be accepted until May 1, 2023.

Connection Café Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Block Island Community Center. Come socialize, play games, learn a new craft, and more. Sponsored by the Senior Advisory Committee.

Soup Group Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Community Center.

Garden Harvest Luncheon and Kelp Farming Presentation
All are welcome at the Block Island Gardeners’ “Harvest from our Gardens” luncheon on Wednesday, September 14 at noon on the porch of the Narragansett Inn. Please bring a favorite dish incorporating harvest from your garden (or someone else’s).
