Sweets For The Sweet

Block Island 10th grade students are having a Valentine's Day Sweets Fundraiser for their Further Afield Trip. Gift Boxes are $20 each and packed full with a yummy assortment of home-made cookies. All gift boxes must be pre-ordered by Monday, Feb. 11. Call Charlotte at 466-2129 or email at cherring@tnc.org to order your sweets. Pick-up is between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. at the 1661 Inn on Thursday, Feb. 14.

Common Ground Event

Friday, Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harbor Church. The film is “A Wrinkle in Time.” The film is a Disney-produced fantasy about children who brave a dangerous journey to a planet that possesses all the evil in the universe. Supper at 6:30 p.m.

New Bible Study Group At Harbor Church

The study group will be held for five Saturdays beginning Feb. 2 through March 2, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the church parlor. In this video-based, small group Bible study, participants will explore what kind of news is good to a culture that thinks it has rejected the Christian version. Please let Pastor Peter Preiser know if you are interested in attending so that he can have enough study guides available. You don’t have to attend every session to participate. Ecumenical Choir Practice

There will be Ecumenical Choir practice for the Easter Concert held every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Church between now and Easter, which is Sunday, April 21.

NAMI BI family support group

Saturday, Feb. 2. NAMI BI family support group will meet in the Island Free Library, Room C, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Anyone with a close friend or family member who is affected by living with mental illness is welcome. There is no commitment required, just see if the support helps.

BIYC Maritime Scholarship

Applications for the B.I. Yacht Club Maritime Scholarship will be accepted until Feb. 1, 2019. Graduates of the Block Island School who intend to pursue maritime careers, and are currently enrolled in a college undergraduate maritime program, are eligible. Block Island Arts and Crafts Guild Scholarship

Beginning Friday, Feb. 1, the Block Island Arts and Crafts Guild will be accepting applications for the annual art scholarship awards. Graduating high school seniors may be eligible. The applications with portfolio should be submitted by May 3, 2019 to either Teri McCombe (401-742-5501) or art teacher Lisa Robb (401-466-5600). Scholarship criteria and applications are available in the Block Island School guidance office.
