Anna Mary Seebode: physician, wife, mother, grandmother
Longtime summer resident Dr. Anna Seebode passed away this past winter after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was 84.
Anna was born in Bronx, N.Y., and graduated from the College of Mount St. Vincent and New York Medical College. She completed her medical internship and residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City, where she was the chief resident in obstetrics and gynecology. She worked as a physician for more than 25 years at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and also had a private practice in gynecology.
Anna met her husband, Dr. Joseph Seebode, while they were both in their residency training at Saint Vincent’s Hospital. They married in 1957 and had five children. They began vacationing on Block Island in 1958, staying first at Cuttings Cottages and later building a house on Corn Neck Road. Anna Seebode spent more than summers on the island, enjoying her family and her friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, who also died this past year. She leaves behind her twin sister Julia, her five children, her six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A mass will be said in her memory at St. Andrew’s Church on Aug. 14 at 11 a.m.
